Rockfish – Our Focus

The diverse Rockfish species along our coast are the backbone of Northern California’s year-round fishing opportunities. From the bright Vermilions found in deeper reefs to the aggressive Black Bass near the jetties, these fish provide a reliable and exciting experience for every skill level. HASA’s mission is to ensure that these healthy stocks remain accessible to the recreational community. We believe that by advocating for science-based depth limits and seasons, we can maintain a thriving fishery that rewards a day on the water with a fresh catch.

Responsible stewardship is at the heart of our approach to Rockfish conservation. We emphasize the importance of identifying specific species and using proper tools, like descending devices, to ensure that any fish released have the best possible chance to survive and contribute to the next generation. HASA works to keep our members informed on the latest conservation areas and best practices, aiming to protect vulnerable stocks while keeping our favorite reefs open. Our goal is a balanced ocean where the resource is respected and the North Coast tradition of bottom fishing continues to flourish.
